What it had to do
Photography and film sites nearly all resolve into the same shape: a grid of best work, a short bio, a contact form. It is a portfolio, and a portfolio shows outcomes while saying nothing about judgement.
The idea here was to put the reader inside the part of the job that is actually the product — the develop and the grade — rather than showing them the finished frame and asking them to be impressed.
How it was built
- A WebGL develop pass. The image resolves from raw to graded as the page moves, running on the graphics card rather than as a stack of pre-rendered images, so it stays sharp at any screen size.
- A grade the reader holds. Control of the colour is handed over directly. It is the single most persuasive thing on the page, because the visitor discovers the difference instead of being told about it.
- Film and stills share one system. The reel and the selects are treated as one body of work rather than two tabs, which is how a studio that shoots both actually works.
- Rates stated up front. One shoot day, no surprises — unusual in this trade, and it removes the single biggest reason an enquiry goes cold.
This is a demonstration build for an invented business. The business does not exist — the name, the prices and the details are invented so we can show the standard of work without putting a client’s site up as a sales tool. The code, the design and the build are entirely real. We label it because a demonstration presented as a client is the thing we least want to be.
